In the shadow of monuments and greatness, Gilbert’s is home to a treasure house of modeling of all types. Model railroaders love finding out-of-production stuff - especially brass locomotives and rolling stock.
Second Generation Owner
Tommy Gilbert, a lifelong miniaturist loves air brushing, assembling kits and watching trains on model railroads.
Tommy brings his passion to the second generation of ownership of Gilbert’s Hobby Shop. Talking with Tommy opens up windows of delight as recounts stories of modelers that he has known - and of course, of his beloved Gettysburg. Civil War buffs can learn some interesting highlights of the Battle of Gettysburg, as well as pick up military miniatures and supplies. Everyday, you will hear a group of experts sharing their insights in this gathering place of aficionados.
Finding the Hard-To-Find
Plastic kit builders will find models that Tommy has found through estate sales that are very hard to come by. All modelers benefit from Tommy’s experience from ferretting out like-new items and bringing them into his shop at reasonable prices.
Whether you paint trains, military miniatures, canvas masterpieces or graphics illustration, Gilbert’s Hobby Shop has a full line of art supplies. From conventional pastels, chalks, oils and acrylics to spray cans, bottled paints and air brush supplies there is a big selection of colors. You’ll find illustration board, pre-mounted canvas and beginners’ kits. There is usually an easel set up for demonstration, showing a work in progress.
